Wiki seat project

A few questions to answer,

The wiki seat project is a chunk of metal a catalyst that is, They give it to students and they have to build a seat for someone special. They must make the legs together like the catalyst but they can use anything wood, hockey sticks, metal. It challenges kids to use their creativity.

Nicolas weidnger is the founder of the wiki seat project, when he first started it no one really cared like it wasn't that interesting but now its a huge big deal.

It was created to challenge students in math, science,la to get them thunking teach them lessons but in a very fun way!

He first started it with the story of the wiki seat and than incorporated the whole language arts aspect of it. combing the two was a very smart idea.

The other students that have built this have only had to say great things about this, It is challenging at some parts but the final project when it is finished is just great! Putting your own ideas into it is just great, I personally love the girls ones but also the gameboy advance is the best! Maybe I should make a Yoshi one I love mario especially mario kart no one can beat me on that and it would be a great idea who doesn't love Yoshi? Anyways I can see why kids were so excited to do this. I am getting pretty excited myself.

I think you need to know how long it takes how to use all of the tools correctly and how perceives your measurements must be! But I have an upper hand in this area since grade 8 i have been building furniture, I have made tables chairs tool boxes images and this year, A big table and a big bench! So the building aspect of the wiki seat im not worried about i have made lots of furniture and love make and building furniture.

Furniture design is my forte I must say, Ergonomics is the measurement and the comfort of the person you are building it for! ergonomics is the politics of furniture design. Essential thins you should defiantly include is the person you are building it for, There favourite things and A pop of colour, This one girl made a cow wiki seat thats all good and cool but when you sat down you would sit on the milkers of the cow like how un comfy. I just thought it was too busy not focusing on one thing.

The elements of design are line, shape, direction, colour, texture.
The principals of design are repetition, gradient, harmony, dominance,

I would probably use the elements design instead of the principals
1-shape
2-colour
3-texture
4-direction
5-lines (the complexity)

My garden bench!

Awesome wiki seat!

The finished project of some kids really awesome!
One of my favorites

Wallet challenge Reflection!!.....Fail

It all started with "An Introduction to Design Thinking", First step was to get into partners, try not to go with someone you know really well. I know its ahh u have to get with my friends but that takes away from the meaning of the challenge. Once you are with your partner we start chatting about, wallets, purses. Ask questions like what don't you like about your wallet, funny stories, sketch a basic idea of what a wallet would look like if you were to design a brand new one for your partner. Once done your sketch interview your partner more in depth get more stories what they want what they don't like. Make notes and little tiny sketches get your brain thinking. About anything in a wallet your dream one.  Insights are key man got them down. Put things they said in perspective,  Make a design little chart put their name at the top, write down what they need in a wallet and what they want so you can see the must haves and the not so must haves! Based on all of your info sketch 8 different solutions that could possibly be your partners new wallet. Share with them your ideas figure out what your partner likes and dislikes of your drawings. With all of that info draw the master piece wallet! use with colour to get the full effect of working at a design partnership! Always lots a detail counts, Than the fun part! Make the wallet you have officially designed using almost anything! Lots of people made duct tape wallets I must say they are pretty nifty little things. I should defiantly invest in one of those. The different colours of duck tape and things. So you could get the best wallet ever! Learning how to make them thats a challenge all in its self!

My final design changed through every step! I am defiantly not the best drawer but through every step you have to take "ill be watching you" good song good song,  Anyways it may seem boring at first but it gets more in depth and changing  designs. One if my had nyan cat the other had trees very different thing very different design, If your design doesn't change than you have a problem

Where did i get stuck....welllll more like every step! thinking of re designing, colour choices, wording, questions everything!!

My A HA! Moment so very exciting I would say in the last step while I was building, I figured out what i couldn't do had to figure out a different method.

Empathy, I could relate to everything she said everything, losing it, its ugly, not enough space.

The physical design made it actually seem fun not oh another assignment it made us have something to actually look forward to something! get the creative juices flowing.

I got some good feedback and some bad. Criticism some good some bad, but thats things you need to improve!

A 2.0 version i would defiantly invest in duct tape wallets defiantly get some experience. Everyone likes those and there just so neat a whole world of them.

Improve my design process by putting more effort in it and making something a lot more, detailed and an over all better design.!!

Photos will be up momentarily!! :)

The gift giving experience !

First off we had a design challenge and we had to make the tallest free standing tower. Only using 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 meter of masking tape, 1 meter of string, 1 big marshmallow  on the very top, 1 pair of scissors. Only having an 18 minute time limit,  My team won 2 years now in a row no big deal, Than we got started on the gift giving experience, You have to ask your partner on experience's they have had shopping for someone else. Than create a solution, multiple soultions, Than we got lots of supplies to make our solution. Knowing how my partner felt with their bad experience, gave me the drive to try and make and find a  long lasting solution, many people have had this problem! I defiantly got stuck many times and had to restart, figuring out a long lasting solution is hard and than some people are defiantly a lot picker than others.  This was a fun design challenge, The time limit was a little bit shorter than expected but thats also what makes so completive i guess you would say! Than for the last step we had to present to our class, Now here are some pictures of this challenge! :)
