Design project/What a call it project!

1. Using 3-D design it was very interesting I must say. I have never really made things like that before especially on sketch up! If anyone is good at 3-D designing when using proper scale pheewww thats a mouthfull. It took me a long time to hang the hang of it. Doing it every day really did help. Having to scale it to the size of wood is a lesson. But easy once you get the hang of it.

2. I didn't use cardboard but a lot of wood! A lot of stop and go progress changing alot of stuff cardboard it a great place to start

3/4. I have looked at the furniture design standards I have it memorized! 16 Is the magic number defiantly. My chair at first was a really plain jane chair sooo boring! Than I made the peanut chair!! yay. But it also turned out like crap people make it look soo easy, maybe it is but defiantly not for me. Issues that came up hmmm does everything make sense, I didn't really realize really how much measuring and what really we had to do.

5.I just restarted that piece tried to fix it I wanted to have shortcuts but I didn't restarting that piece of area is the way to go with the issues.

7.I love sketch up now you can do so much the possibilities are endless! I have used the tape measure is like my baby. Draw a line measure everything possible! I have learned the skill i would need to use sketch up! I was nieve but not anymore!

9. I was just to dumb to think of things really. I cant stop saying like how much i didn't think this was. But it was so much more. Just like with the wiki seat project I actually learned new skills and building blocks!  Issues just everything! I am not kidding you I am just everything was wrong a lot.

10. I am actually really happy. I  honestly didn't want to be multimedia. Now I am happy that I did it was such a great experience! I have learned so much a lot more than other classes I would recommend every one take this class. We do lots of fun things! My last project couldn't of come out better!!! :)

Documenting Our Progress

1. At first my chair was just a normal high school chair. Not really anything special, Once I printed it I realized how much it really sucked. So I made a new one a lot harder than I thought but It still sucks. I wanted to get A cool design for a chair something interesting I guess. But this is defiantly not my fotae. In style perspectives mine still sucks but I will have a link below...

2. All of my inspiration is on pintrest I will give you a link to my board!

3-The tape measure is going to be you best friend in this process, I am not kidding the tool you need to use everything on is the tape measure EVERYTHING!!!! The reason for that is when you cut out your model on the laser cutter it wont fit. Unless you use the tape measure. This project if difficult for me everyone is cutting out their real life designs I am still adjusting mine! This is defiantly a cool project just taking me longer than others.

4.Well sorry guys I have no pictures of my design I keep changing the design and re designing them so It changes a lot. But with my reality check people told me my chair had no pizzaz and I get that because I know it doesnt. But the design I am kinda sticking to is a peanut type chair. I will defiantly add a picture of that. But I hope all of everyone else works out well. I suggest everyone goes an looks at the rest of my classes blogs all of their chairs and stool tables look awesome!

WiKi Seat write up...Ya"ll

Well we gotta write about our wiki seat. Here I go, It was defiantly a challenge but It was very interesting. I never really thought of how to actually build it. The seat girrllll don't get me started! That was defiantly what grinded my gears. It was like the seat had a mind of it's own. I have a construction background I am really good at building furniture but this seat was like nah man I am not going to do that for you. Than it was like yolo. I was stumped, than figured it out. But knowing where all of the little mistakes are I am my own worst enemy.

The legs were pretty easy I thought it would have been a lot harder but as i was saying it was the seat that gave me the most trouble. Measurements were kinda hard to figure out in the beginning but onceI got a little feel of the heigh and what was too high and what wasn't it got a lot easier.
Thinking back on it now some things I would change is taking this project a lot more seriously. I defiantly could have done a better job!, I mean it's good and all but just not the version in my head that I thought it could be. Having a furniture building back round making what I see in my head is what makes it all, The seat not coming out as well as I had hoped sucked a lot, I hated it but it's not too bad it does it's job. So all in all I would have changed how I thought about building it.
As well as the struggles I had building it I did learn somethings about myself, I am defiantly not a seat maker, tables, storage compartments, bench's yes but not seats or stools. But thats okay nothing wrong with that.

I am happy I made this for someone else, My twin she did choose the colour and design also stayed up with me till 1 am painting. It did feel good, But not amazing I am just that type of person.
On that point I am happy that I got it done that was great. I was more excited having and getting it done than actually giving it to someone. Seeing the final product was what got me happy. Building the seat did teach some new things but skills not really I already knew how to do everything.
I probably went through the design process all in different steps. I still got it done. like yes! The steps were hard making it was hard painting it was hard stayed up till 1 am! Just to get it perfect even tho it kinda turned out not the best. It was all hard but I would do it all over again. It was really fun, I built mine at a friends house. So it was pretty fun.Being on the wiki seat website seeing other peoples wiki seat. I was like wow I wish I could get mine like that. It looks amazing .
That is my seat story not the best not the worst.
But tell me, what's your story?

Reality check! In Chair design.......I failed. :)

Well lets jut be honest here. My chair out of cardboard completely sucks. It does man, one leg too short the back is way bigger than the seat, the seat it too small. Just I defiantly need to make a new one. Do some research on chairs. I know it doesn't really seem that important but it really does. I need to actually do research. The teacher was right! who would have thought eh? But they do know their stuff. My chair sucks horribly don't cut corners. My group said the same thing my chair does suck, I am not worried just make a new one. So my final design it defiantly better. You might nit like it but other people can be right too.  Nicole's Is really cool, character, to It she did her homework.!

This is a picture of my failed horrible chair and hers.! Mine is right and her's is left~

Furniture design standards.

The chair dimension-
Seat width-16-20"
Seat depth-15-18"
Seat height from floor-16-18"
Seat slope-5*-8* degrees
Armrest above seat -7-9"
Armrest length-8 minimum
Armrest width - 2" (average)
Seat back height-12-16"
Now these dimensions are on average of an adult human. These measurements might adjust according to the person who you are specifically making this for. For lounge chairs the dimensions are different but very much alike at the same time.

Coffee tables/side tables
Well for the tables it all depends on what size and shape. The square table has different dimensions from the round one. The rectangular has different dimensions from the others. So i will do the dimensions for the most common a square but if you would like the dimensions for the others and much more just click here and go to this link. (you might have type it in your address bar)

http://www.cawspi.org/Furniture%20Design.pdf

Square coffee/side table
Height-15-17"
Length-36-60"
Width/Depth-18-24"

What I am thinking of designing is a chair. We are putting our furniture in the energy centre, For anyone to use. But I would say one of the most important things is durablity. After all it is a high school attached to the energy center. Kids are going to do stuff to our furniture. I am getting off track I want to build a chair that has lots of charcter. In construction class I only make furniture so this is right in my field.
I have no idea how I am going to build it right now. But me and my group will figure it out. So I will be updating my blog along the way.

Wiki seat update~!

Okay well so far I have the legs done. Cut, measured, plained, put together. This weekend I am going to a friends house to finish my wiki seat. Cut out the stool and put it on a big challenge I think. The legs are in such an awkward shape to deal with anyways. But I am sure we can figure it out. Once it is all put together. I am going to paint the legs a pink and the top a chiffon pattern with grey and white. My twin is designing this seat. What ever she says goes! Yea thats gonna work! :)
